Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 12.5 hp B&S engine, cam gear, valve timing

Question
I am having trouble setting timing on this engine.  I had to replace the rod on this engine and the cam gear and crank gear have a mark each.  When I sent them so the marks are inline it is not right.  Then I took it apart again to check.  Then I saw that the cam gear and the crank gear are not the same size. The crank dot goes around at least 2 times for every turn of the cam gear.  So I tried it the other way.  Still does not work.. Can you help me?
Thanks,
Phil

Answer
Hello Phil:

The Piston Should Turn 2 Times to 1 Full Turn of the Cam. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. However, if you Match the Timing Mark on the Crankshaft to the Timing Mark on the Cam, then the Valve Timing Should be Correct. What Makes you Beleive the Timing was Not Correct? How did the Engine Act? Did you De-Glaze the Cylinder? If No, then the Compression is Not Going to be Correct. Any Time the Piston is Removed from the Cylinder; the Cylinder Must be De-Glazed. This is True Even if you Use the Old Rings. Thanks.
