Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine swap, bolt pattern, blown engine

Question
I have a john deere s 80 with a blown engine and I would like to replace this engine with something in the more modern day rather than search for a b s 8 hp. Will a newer model b s like a 13 hp work?

Thank You
Al

Answer
Hello Al:

If the Crankshaft Length and Diameter are the Same as the Old Engine; there Should be No Problems Doing this Replacement. The Oil Pan Bolt Pattern Should Match the Bolt Pattern in the Frame. I Always Check the Bolt Pattern for the Frame, the Crankshaft Length and Diameter. I Never Suggest Upping the HP Over 5 to 7 HP. Too Much HP can Damage the Operating Components of the Mower. If these 3 Match, then I Install the Engine on the Mower. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
