Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Engine problems, billy goat leaf blower, taper lock

Question
QUESTION: Hi Paul,
I have a Kawasaki FA210D engine on a Billy Goat leaf blower.  The engine does not come up to full speed and sounds bogged down when running.  It runs like this for about 5 minutes of use then bogs down and stops, it seems siezed, you cannot pull the pull cord until it cools down. Any thoughts????

ANSWER: Once a Kawi seizes cooling down won't help free it up.  Look at the Goat for the problem.  I'm betting bearing failure on the impeller.

QUESTION: The impeller is attached directly to the crankshaft output of the motor via a taper lock hub no bearing directly on the impeller.  After the engine cools down I can move the impeller with a screwdriver and the pull cord frees up to be able to pull to start again.  Prior to that cool down I cannot. CAn it be the bearings (if one) on the crankshaft?

Answer
Yes.  This engine is rarely used and I don't kmow that I have ever even seen one.  I have never seen an engine that could do what you are describing more than about 3 times before it throws the rod out the side of the block.
Sorry Tony,  Figure in your August budget a new motor.
