Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): dixon, strap wrench, pipe wrench

Question
How do I change a Blade on my dixon model 3362 (1997) riding lawn mower.  I have a new blade and When I try to turn the 15/16" nut on the bottom, it just turns on the shaft? how do I stop it to get the nut off?

Answer
Hello Butch:

Remove the Spark Plug. Take the Plug and Go to the Hardnware or Automotive Parts Retailer.   Purchase a Bolt the Same Diameter and Threads as the Plug. It Needs to Be  4" Long and Threaded at Least 3". You May have to Locate a Machine Shop for this Bolt. Carefully Install the Bolt in Place of the Spark Plug Until the Bolt has Jammed the Piston. Now Remove the Blade Bolt. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Hello Again Butch:

I Just Saw your Post. I am Sorry. I Mistakenly Sent the Wrong Instructions. Those were to Hold the Shaft on Push Mowers. The Instructions for Riding Mowers are: With the Cutter Deck Removed from the Mower. You can Hold the Spindle Pulley by Using a Strap Wrench. You can Make a Strap Wrench with an Old Belt and a 3 or 5", 1/2" Drive Extension and Wratchet, or if the Nut is Really Rusted to the Shaft, you May have to Hold the Shaft from Behind the Blade with a Pipe Wrench. Let the Pipe Wrench Jam Against the Cutter Housing and Use an Electric or Air Impact to Remove the Nut. You May have to Heat the Nut Also. You can View a Breakdown/IPL ot this Mower by Going Here, http://www.tulsaenginewarehouse.org/parts.asp then Select shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Dixon). Then Enter the Model Numbers. Then Double Click on your Model in the Results Area. Once Again I Appoligize for the Mistake. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
