Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Golf Cart, stroke engine, spark arrestor

Question
My husbnad is working on a golf cart.  It's a early model I think in the 70's two stroke engine.  He has it running but it is spitting and popping when you step on the gas.  He has took the carb off cleaned put in all new hose.  What could be the problem?  He has replaced just about everything he could think of.  Please help...he is really getting frustrated with it now lol.  Thank you Rebecca

Answer
 Hello Rebecca:

Have Him Remove the Muffler and Check the Exhaust Port and Muffler for Blockage. Check the Spark Arrestor Screen for Blockage Also. If these are Clear, then Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Kit. If the Carburetor Jet on a 2 cycle Engine Becomes Restricted, it will Pop and Backfire due to Not Enough Fuel Getting Into the Cylinder. If you Require more Assistance, Send me the Make and Model Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL and Better Assist you. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
