Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): homelite generator, pair of hands, stratton

Question
i put a set of rings in a homelite generator it used a 8hp brigg-stratton. are there any tips on putting the armature brushes back on when putting it back together?

Answer
Usually there is a small hole in the brush housing.  You install the brushes, push them back in there housing, then install a piece of wire in the hole to hold them in place.

Once assembled pull the wire out and the brush springs push them down on the armature.  If there are no holes then you can make some brush holders from an old starter rewind spring.  Same theory, use the homade brush holder to hold the springs in place while you assemble the parts.

A second pair of hands is also very helpful.
Let me know if this helps.
