Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Homelite saw starts, quits then floods, diafram, fuel inlet

Question
I have an older XL2 automatic. I can't find any model/serial #'s on the saw. It starts easily 3-4 pulls, then revs up well for about 15-20 seconds, then dies out like it's running out of fuel. When I try to restart it, it doesn't fire at all, and after 3-4 pulls it floods, soaking the plug, with fuel dripping out of the muffler. The gas mix, spark, compression, air + fuel filters are all good. Does this sound like the diafram in the carb is stuck open ? I took the carb apart, and it seems to be ok, except for a clogged fuel inlet screen.
Any advice you suggest ? Thank You!

Answer
Hi Scott
It might be the carb, but lets check somthing else first!! Take the muffler off & You shoud find a little screen! It is call a spark resistor! Alot of times this will get clogged with carbon & will cause the same symtoms! Just clean it & put back togather and see what happens!
let me know & we will go from there!!
