Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower Issue, briggs and stratton, carburator

Question
Hi:

I have a 3.75 Briggs and Stratton Sprint II lawnmower: Model 98902 / Type 1315-01 / Code 96101552. I can only start the engine if the accelerator lever is at the idle position. Once I flip the lever to the rabbit speed, the engine dies. When it is at idle speed, I can manually increase engine speed by reaching into the engine and moving the accelerator. The accelerator is connected by a spring to the accelerator lever. Any ideas? I am leaning towards a bad carburetor or the engine kill switch. Your assistance is very appreciated.

Thanks,
Jay

Answer
 Hello Jay:

Make Sure that Nothing is Touching the Stop Switch when you Move the Throttle Cable. Have Someone Move the Throttle Lever While you Watch the Linkage Move. If Anything Touches the Stop Switch and Grounds it the Engine will Quit. If you can Throttle Up the Engine By Hand and it will Rev Up, then I Dont see the Carburator Being the Problem. All you are doing when you Move the Carburator Linkage by Hand is Taking the Place of the Throttle Cable. If the Carburator was the Problem, it would Happen Even when you Move the Carburator Linkage by Hand. You can View a Breakdown of this Engine At this Addy http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/BShopProductListingPage.asp?rsvp=0&PARENTID=0&... Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck
