Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Mower runs then quits, carburator, push mower

Question
I have an older Gilson riding mower. Last fall, as I was cutting my lawn, it sputtered to a stop. I got it restarted after a minute or two, but it only ran for about 5-10 secs. I suspected bad gas or something like that, so I drained the tank, made sure gas was getting to the
carb etc and it was still the same. I tried everything I knew to do, but the same thing: started, ran and then sputtered to a stop after
5 or so seconds. Parked it and cut the lawn with a push mower for the rest of the growing season. I finally decided to look at it again today. Put a new plug into it, put gas in it (i had completely drained all the gas from it last fall, including the carb). I even pulled the jets out and the bowl off to check if anything was obviously wrong with it, and could see nothing. Made sure that the carb was filled with gas and fired her up. Caught on the first or
second revolution, ran for about 7 seconds and then sputtered to a stop. Kept trying and got it to catch a couple of more times, but it wouldn't stay running. I'm out of options and am going to take it to the local mower guy, but was hoping you could shed some insight.
Thanks
Lee

Answer
 Hello Lee:

The Carburator Needs to be Cleaned and Rebuilt. Gas Forms a Varnish that Restricts the Flow of Gas to the Jets. The Carburator needs to be Soaked in Cleaning Solution Overnight for Proper Cleaning of the Varnish and then All Ports and Passages Blown Out with Compressed Air. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck
