Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): sears weedwacker 32cc, air fuel mixture, sears weedwacker

Question
John,
first, thanks for getting my troybilt weed-eater going a couple of weeks ago. since, with your guidance, i was able to get that going, i now have inherited from my father-in-law his sears weedwacker. have replaced fuel lines, fuel filter, & spark buld, am getting spark, & when using starter fluid can get a sputter. anything else before taking off carb & blowing out ? is there a rule of thumb on adjustment of idling screw (so many turns out to start with) ? thanks, again.

Answer
 Hello Randy:

Welcome Back. Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Trimmer, Please. From what you Described, it Sounds like the Carburator needs Cleaning and Rebuilding. The Model Numbers will let me Look at the Carburator you are working on. Most Idle Screws are set After the Engine is Running good and you can Control the Speed of the Engine While finding Proper Idle Speed for the Engine. The Air/Fuel Mixture Screws are set Between 1 1/2 and 2 Turns Out from Seat. Then Adjusted For Proper Reving and Idling of the Engine. Set at 2 Turns Out Both the Idle Air/Fuel Mixture and High RPM Air/Fuel Mixture Screws. Then Holding the Throttle Full Open,Start the Trimmer and Adjust the High RPM Air/Fuel Screw till the Engine Revs and is Smooth with the Throttle Open. As soon as the Engine is Running Smooth and Has the Power at Full Throttle, STOP. Let the Engine Idle. When Reving from Idle to High RPM, if there is Hesitation, then Adjust the Low Air/Fuel Screw to Rid the Engine of the Hesitation. Now Set the Engine to Idle. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
