Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman tractor will not turn over., craftsman lawn tractor, tractor model

Question
Hello. I have a Craftsman lawn tractor model# 917.271532, and it
will not turn over. When I turn the key, I get a short click, and that's
it. I replaced the battery 6 months ago (after replacing the battery
before that 3 months prior), and I just had the battery fully charged
last night. I have jumped the mower in the past, even with a new
battery to get it started. Also even though the battery appears to be
good, the tractor's front headlights won't come on. In the past,
once I get the tractor started, I can shut it off, and it will crank right
back up. But if it sits for awhile, I'm right back to where I started
from. Please let me know your thoughts.

Answer
 Hello Mickey:

Check the Wiring System for a Current Draw from the Battery with the Ignition Switch Turned Off. Check the Battery for a Bad Cell. Check the Starter for Bad Brushes and Bushings. These will cause the Starter to Drag unless you have a Larger Battery (moe CCA) to Turn the Starter. It sounds like you have Something in the Harrness that is Drawing the Battery Down when you Park it. A Dead Cell in the Battery will Do this. A Bad Ignition Switch will Drain the Battery Too. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
