Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler M18S Type 24665, starter generator, ammeter

Engine has stopped charging. I suspect the alternator (no charge current on ammeter).  How do I test it / get to it to replace?  Engine is mounted in a Craftsman GT6000 ~1993 vintage

Hi Stuart,

Your engine either has a charging coil or a starter/generator.  I'm not sure how to test either.  There might also be an inline diode or rectifier which has
burned out.
