Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S engine, bowl style, float bowl

Question
just got out l. mower ..to start..sputter..stops..cleaned around carb w/ air pressure can...I'm not a mechanic(obviuosly)...how do you clean a carburator..i like to try do it yourself..how do you take pieces apart to do this..help..the grass grows as we speak.

Answer
Briggs only have a couple of carb styles.  The older diaphram style and the float bowl style.

For either type, you will have to remove the air filter and air filter housing.  This will expose the carb.  Diaphragm style come off the engine with a couple of bolts, one in the front and one on the side.  Float style come off with 2 bolts on the front/closest to the engine side of the carb.  Both are easy to do.

Once off, dis-assemble carb, clean the orfices with compressed air from an air compressor.  Re-assemlbe and test.

Does this help?
Let me know.
