Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman riding mower transaxle, oil leaks, oil grease

Is there a way to check oil/grease in the transaxle?  I have a 12HP 6sp 42# model#917255440.  It was given to me w/o any paperwork.  Thank you.

 Hello Tom:

 There is No Oil Fill/Drain Pugs on Transaxles. Their Design is such, that if you see Oil Leaking it Has to go to the Shop for Repairs and this only happens if the Transaxle has been Abused or has lots of Age. I Myself have Drilled and Tapped Several Transaxles (at Customers Request) for Oil to be Added. Most Oil Leaks from a Transaxle are Minor and Filling the Transaxle to Just Below 1/2 Of the Transaxle Diameter will Suffice the Season. Usually 1/2 Pint if Transaxle is Low.  Hope this Helps.
