Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): pull cord fails to rewind craftsman 32cc Weedwacker, craftsman weedwacker, recoil spring

I have an eleven year old 32cc 17" Craftsman Weedwacker.  The pull cord failed to rewind and I took it apart and rewound the recoil spring and the cord.  It started, but made a horrible racket and now the cord will not rewind again.  Is it possible to rewind the recoil spring in the wrong direction?  Do I just need a new recoil spring and/or pull cord

 Hello Vaughn:

 If it 11yrs Old I would Purchase an New Spring and Pull Cord. Your into it this far. The parts are Old Replace Them. WATCH the Direction you Install the Spring. That Sounds like what Happened this Time.
