Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Old ariens snow thrower fan no moving, ariens snow thrower, shear bolts

Question
In looking at the Ariens web site and the parts list for this model I ony see a pin, # 05800700 1/4 x 1-1/4" that appears to secure the fan to the shaft.  There's no indication anywhere of a bolt securing the fan to the shaft.
It also looks like I may be able to reach this pin through the top?

I have an old, Model # 10962, Ariens Snow Thrower that the fan has stopped turning.
The augers work fine and the shaft turns, but the fan doesn't.  I can turn it freely by hand.
I noticed that there is a pin listed.
If this is the problem how hard is it to repair?
Answer -
Usually the fan is bolted to the crankshaft.  The bolt may have come out.  I would recommend taking a look at it.  To do this you will have to remove the auger assemble to access the fan.  It's a decent amount of work but you should do it to make sure the crank is not damaged.

Before complete removing everything three may be a worn belt or drive wheel on the fan.  Remove the belt cover and check the belts FIRST.  This may save a lot of work.

Let me know how the belts look.

Answer
That should be a shear bolt...I just wasn't completely sure it that model had a shear bolt.

It's pretty normal for blowers to shear the pins every now and then.  Just make sure there is nothing, like a rock, inside the fan area.  Also I would check the engine mounting bolts to make sure they are tight.

You can use the Ariens part number or try you local small engine repair shop for shear bolts.  We carry aftermarket shear bolts in a varity of sizes to fit many brands of blowers.
