Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): honda mower, honda mower, durwood

Question
engine won't start and run
things done so far:
ign. ok
gas flow all way to carb
carb torn down and thourghly cleaned
shot of ether into carb fires it up. will
run as long as this lasts.
air cleaner ok
gas tank cap ok
new plug
engine is an xj type with a manual choke.year is about '98/'99
suggestions?
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Hi Durwood,

If it only runs with the addition of fuel, then the carb is not delivering.  I would take it apart again and re-check every small opening, probing with a fine wire.  I have had to re-do a few carbs several times to find that one small hole was missed.  
If that doesn't help, I would add a carb rebuild kit.  In rare cases, some carbs just need replacing.
