i have a lawn mower that will start and run but will not engage and go forward...i wonder if it is a belt or the transmission?

CHRIS, THIS COULD BE SEVRAL THINGS.  MOST PROBABLY A SLIPPING BELT.  THE ONLY WAY TO FIND OUT IS TO PULL IT DOWN AND TAKE A LOOK.  I GUESS YOU COULD WITH THE ENGINE OFF AND SITTING ON THE DRIVE HAVE SOMEONE PUT IT IN GEAR, SEE IF YOU CAN PUSH THE MOWER EASILY.  IF YOU CAN THAT WOULD TEND TO MAKE ME THINK IT WAS THE BELT.
