Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawnmower chord wont move, briggs stratton, mulcher

Just a general question: what's the remedy for a pull mower with a pull chord that won't move an inch?

Model: Atlas Mower/Mulcher
Motor: Briggs & Stratton 3.75 horsepower

Hi Reed,

It sounds like the recoil cord is bound up inside the assembly.  You can remove the entire top engine shroud, which should include the recoil.  With access to the underside of the assembly, you should be able to see the problem.  You might be able to untangle the cord and be good to go.  If the rope is badly damaged, it might need replacement.
