Snowmobile Repair: wiring, stator plate, headlight bulb

Question
Hi, I have a 1991 wildcat 700, I just lost my headlight, tailight, brakelight, and tach. The headlight bulb looks good. Any ideas?

Answer
Hello Dan,

Sounds lke you have a job on your hands. Generally, when you loose current to all of the lighting, it means that the lighting coil went on the sled. It is attached to the stator plate, under the rotor (flywheel). You can see a diagram of it here: http://www.brownsleisureworld.com/Parts/SNOWMOBILE/1991/1991WILDCAT700MOUNTAINCA...(0650-154-1991)/ELECTRICALEQUIPMENTMAGNETO.htm . It wouldn't hurt to check all of the main wiring plugins, any fueses, and the wiring harness. Best of luck to you, the lighting coil failure is a common problem, I just got done installing a new one. Hope you get it working good, before we get all the snow! Let me know if I can help you with any other questions. --Arcticatman
