Steering Column Repair: non tilt steering column on 1994 chevy c2500, locking pin, hi tim

i had to change the ignition rack & sector gear and where the rack and sector goes there is a spring that i am unsure where it goes i think it returns the keys to the run position please help. it has a manual transmission i need a diagram that shows where and how it goes together thank you

Hi Tim:

There is no spring that returns the key to the run position.  That spring action is inside the ignition switch.  the only spring I can think of neat the rack & pinion gears in the column is the spring around the locking pin for the steering wheel.  I have attached a picture of that part and am enclosing a link to an exploded view of that particular column.  I hope this helps you
