I saw your answer from 9/30/2006 with the diagram.  I understand about pulling the stem directly out, but how do you disconnect the black wire shown in the diagram?

I wasn't answering questions back in 2006, so I'm not sure what you were referring to.  But to respond to your question, the cruise control wire attaches under the dash and needs to be fed through the column during assembly.
