Steering Column Repair: loose steering 86 gmc truck, steering gearbox, alignment shop

not tilt, 86 gmc automatic 3/4 pu many many miles on it -drives straight just
lots of play in the wheel, something to get used to or something i can do?

Hi John;

Most of the time the play comes from the steering gearbox or bad components under the truck, (tie rod or idler arm) not anything in the column.  There is really nothing the column that will create play.

Have an alignment shop take it for a drive and give you their best estimate as to what is wrong, but if everyting under the truck is tight, then I think a simple adjustment to the steering gearbox will take out most of your play.
