Steering Column Repair: 78 Corvette Steering Column Telescopic, 78 corvette, upper shaft

Question
I am repairing a 78 Corvette steering column with telescopic and cannot get the telescopic to lock. Someone else dismantled and either I am missing parts or doing something wrong. Any views of parts for this or reassembly pictures?

Answer

upper telescopic shaft
Hi Dany:
There are a lot of pieces involved for the telescopic portion to work and they all need to be adjusted and installed correctly.  As I can only post 1 picture at a time, I am enclosing a link to a web page we have created for you.
The only parts not shown (and I suspect these may be missing) are further down the column.  There should be a rod inside the upper shaft.  This rod pushes on a tapered keyway and forces it against the inside of the lower shaft.  All of this is taking place below the lock plate and horn cam. so when you tighten the star screw, it is actually pushing this rod down and forcing the keyway.
Here is the link to the webpage for an exploded view of the upper components.

If you need more photo of the other parts I am referring to, send us an email through our website contact page & we can reply with more detailed and larger photos.

I hope this helps you
Good Luck
