Steering Column Repair: 92 Olds Acheiva Ign., switch assembly, switch problem

Question
a friend of mine has a problem with the wipers/radio and gauges that stop working at times. I drove it and the wipers worked ok until I parked it and turned the radio on the wipers and radio stopped. It seemed like just touching teh key stopped everything, including the engine. I feel the ign switch is the problem.
 How do I get to it? Is it on the column or under the steering wheel?

Hello JC,
Yes, I agree that it sounds like an ignition switch problem. You can get to the switch assembly located on the top of the column close to the brake pedal by removing the mounting bolts under the dash. Once the column is down and away from the dash, you should be able to see the switch assembly.
