Steering Column Repair: pivot pins, iroc z28 camaro, pivot pins

Question
Hi Rob,my name is Brad Mac and I own a
1989 Iroc Z28 Camaro.Anyway,I was surfing the net and I came across your site and read your instructions on how to tighten those damn four bolts that seem to get loose and cause the column to rock back and forth...hey great instructions though...I'm not trying to bash you.I got all the way to the pivot pins and I tried to get one of them out with the pin puller...when it broke...I was wondering if you could please help me...do you have any ideas as to how I could fix my dumbass mistake.

Answer
Hi,

Drill out with 1/8 colbalt drillbit.

If using another tool do this. Sometimes the right pin sticks. Tilt the column up and down numerous times. This will take thetension out of the pin.
When using the pivot pin tool, tighten the stud so it is relatively tight. Do not over tighten. Place spacer over pin. Tighten nut down. You need to hold the hex on the stud with one wrench and tighten the nut removing the pin. You do not want the stud turning deeper into the pin, because it will again break.
Good luck!
