Nissan Repair: 87 Nissan Pickup, double filament, filament bulb

Question
Just bought this 87 Nissan pickup long bed, and the guy I bought it from had something replaced in the steering column, and now it is hard to shift gears.  It is an automatic, and he took it to Nissan and they said the linkage in the column was fine.  Have you heard of this problem?  Also the left front signal works and flashes while lights are off, but when lights are on the signal will not flash?

Answer
Hi Will -

Can you find out what was done to the steering column? Was it hard to shift before the work was done? Were you present when it was taken to Nissan? Perhaps you should get a second opinion.

For the T/S I would first check the rear bublbs to see if the proper ones are installed. If it is supposed to be a double filament bulb and a single fialment is put in, then it will not flash when the lights are on. If that is OK, then I suspect it could be related to the work that was done on the steering column. That is where the light switch is, which is, of course connected to the T/S switch. Could be some wires are disconnected or crossed.

The more info you can give me the better -

Hope this helps -
