Steering Column Repair: Lock cylinder, lock cylinder, ford f150

Question
The lock cylinder, the part where the key is put, was broken off in the steering column of my son's 88 Ford F150. It is just the end part that fits into the steering column to turn on the car.   We have tried to retrieve it, but to no avail.  Please advise what we can do to get it out so we can put the new one in.  I have no clue how to get into the steering column.

Answer
I am not sure as to what you are referring to, but I think you are refering to the key assist bezel which is main\ly cosmetic.
To change the ignition lock in this vehicle requires you insert the key into the ignition lock and rotate to ON. You will see a hole on the bottom of the column below the lock. Insert and icepick awl in the hole and depress the release button on the lock. Pull lock away from steering column and lock is out. Insert new lock and key in housing and turn toON and press lock in column.Doing all this will make it so you now need two keys. One for the doors and one for the ignition. If after you get the lock out and you want the key to match ignition and doors, go to a locksmith and have him switch the tumblers around from the old lock before you replace the lock.

Good Luck
