Steering Column Repair: 88 Buick Century Turn Signal Switch, turn signal switch, neighbor hood

Question
Hi Rob,
I have an 88 Buick Century with turn signal issues.  When i turn on my blinker, whether right or left, it will work for a bit, then stop.  If i tap the base of the lever on the steering column with a screw driver, it will work for a little while, then stop again.  The emergency flashers work fine, so i figure it's the turn signal switch, but i have no clue how to get to it.  Any help you can provide will be most appreciated, thanks, David

Answer
Hi,

I am not a parts changer, but the cost of the part I would first replace is under $5.
Look under the steering column under the dash for the flasher. To find it, turn the key on and listen for it while in a turn position. There are 2 flashers in the car. You don't want the 4 way flasher unless you want to swap them and see if this cures the problm could be the switch. Not a hard repair, but does require some rented specialty tools and some patience. If you end up going that route, I can give you detailed instructions for replacing it. The switch price might be in the neighbor hood of $50.

Let me know.

Rob
