Steering Column Repair: steering column repair, steering column repair, dowel pin

Question
Is there any to put a larger dowel pin in the shift lever and coller of the Chevy steering column. I have one I would like to tighten up. If this is possible where could I find the dowel pin Thank you

Answer
Hi,

By design you will not be able to change the style of pin. If you look at the top end, you will see little teeth (Splines).
Insert an ice pick awl into the bottom of the hole facing upward. Remove the pin. The reason for the awl is to keep from having the lever pop out. It is under spring tention.
Try putting some locktight on the splines. Reinserte the pn pushing downward while using the awl and pushing inward on the shift lever in order to get the pin lined up through the shift handle.
Once awl is removed and pin is set slightly upward, take a channel locks and press the pin flush.
It should not come out on you again.
