Steering Column Repair: Hard Steering, roadside assistance programs, daewoo nubria

Question
I am one of the unfortunate people who purchased a 2000 Daewoo Nubria. Ironically, I did so because I was buying a vehicle for my mother and they offered the best warantee and roadside assistance programs... Ha, Ha...
I'll admit that the car has been great, untill now. It's actually better then it's competition was, like Hunday or Kia... Unfortunately, the company closed up and the dealerships all disapeared, like store front churches, almost overnight... So, I (Mom) now owns a car with no warantee, or even available parts, with a mear 22,000 miles on it...
So, without the Violin, here's my problem...
Mom swears she simply parked in a parking lot and everything was fine? When she got back to the car, the steering wheel was so hard to turn, she had to ask me to come and get her.
The fan belt is not slipping. Visual inspection showes nothing was bent, or hit. I removed the hoses from the power steering fluid holder, started the car and turned the wheels, untill all fluid was drained. The pump appears to be working, as it also shows flow in the fluid bottle, when the car is running and the fluid was full. I then allowed the suction hose to "Drink" some solvent and turned the wheels to each stop, repeatedly, in an effort to dissolve or dislodge anything that might be plugging up a hose or port. Refilling the system, it worked fine for about an hour of driving, then the problem returned? Repeating those steps did nothing this time? What's also strange, is that the power steering isn't completely dead, it seems to funtion at about 10% capasity and you can hear the pump noise, when you hold the wheel at either stop? I am what you might call a mechanic of "yesteryear" and had only seen this problem once before, in an old ford granada. However, that was only one side (left) which was affected. The problem there was a small peice of the old hose, which had plugged the valve body... This car is equally hard, left or right and the system is different from the old american clunkers I once worked on...
Sadly, I can't really find any info on this car. Unless you think/know differently, I'm pretty convinced that there is some sort of pressure valve or port blockage? Would you happen to know where that stuff is in this plastic shielded monstrosity, or maybe what other cars share similar systems, or do you maybe have some magic words, I can chant over the hood? (or some tricks up your sleve?)
I love my mom, but with three kids, wife home, job, etc. , it's kind of hard to take on the job of chaufer too and nobody around here will work on this thing... :-) Thanks... Bob
