Subaru Repair: 99 Subaru Legacy problem, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
Hello I have a problem with my Subaru legacy. At first the problem was mild, I thought it was just skipping, when I was going up a steep hill it started to bog down, the RPM was going down when I step on the gas pedal as if it was going to die on me. So I released the gas pedal and step on the clutch so it wont die on me and the RPM went back up. The following day it got worst now I cant even go anywhere, same problem the RPM goes down when I step on the gas then I release it and it goes back up. Sometimes it will idle real low and go back up. When I step on the gas it sounds like it is just sucking air instead of gas. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, and gas filter thinking that might solve it.

Answer
Robert,

I understand the symptoms, and the most common thing would be the mass air flow sensor, but there are plenty of other things it could be.  You have already spent time and money trying to fix it, your choices from here are either to go with my guess or maybe find a Good Subaru expert in your part of town.
