Subaru Repair: 95 subaru Legacy CEL, empty gas tank, many different things

Check engine light came on shortly after filling near empty gas tank.  Still runs fine but light stays on. 330,000 miles.  What are first things to check?  Most common causes are? I've checked gas cap-it's OK.

Could be many different things. There are a few hundred codes in the computer. The most common with fill up is the gas cap, but there are still many components to Evaporative system that could cause the light to come on. You will need to take the car somewhere to have it checked. I believe AutoZone will read the code for free. But usually it still needs to be diagnosed to find the actually problem. If I had a code to work with, I might be able to gove you more information.
