Subaru Repair: 1998 2.5 Subaru Outback wont start, head gasket failure, subaru outback

Question
Experienced sudden engine overheating and head gasket failure on my recently purchased Outback. Mechanic replaced gaskets, belts and tensioner with genuine Subaru parts. Engine is turning over, fuel is getting to the engine and plugs and cambelt are located in the right position, but the engine fails to catch. Also, I am trying to find the OBD socket below the dash to see if there are any engine error codes but unable to locate the socket. Is it possible that the socket may be tucked in behind the radio. This is a UK (RHD) car. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Steve.

Answer
The data link connector has a tendency to pop out of the lower dash panel. If you remove the panel you should see the data link conector. As far as the no start If it ran before it is most likely something that is being over looked and scanning for data is a good first step.
