Subaru Repair: cruise control light., cruise control, warning light

On the highway I had my 2004 Forrester on cruise when suddenly the cruise went off and the cruise light began flashing. At the same time the check engine light went on and stayed on. The cruise light sontinued to flash. What could this be?

It could be many things.from a problem with the brake light circuit including a faulty bulb and socket.Yes the computer monitors the brake lamp circuit voltage and will illuminate a warning light if there is an issue.Being that the light is flashing and the ECM as triggered the check engine light as well I would suggest taking it to some one who knows Subaru and have it properly diagnosed.
