Towing Issues: personal property, personal belongings, tow company

Question
I live in Missouri and I am very curious as to what the laws are on towing here. I totaled my car and was taken to the hospital by ambulance, either the paramedics or officers called the nearest tow company who came and got my car. I was in the hospital for 5 days and when I got out I was informed by my father that they he went to get my personal belongings out of the car and they wouldn't let him unless he paid the $150.00 fee to get my things. This just doesn't sound right to me. They also released ALL my personal info to my father without ever contacting me...the owner of the car. I trust my father so It's not a big deal that they did give it to him once he paid the 150, but they didn't know our relationship, they could have been releasing all my personal belonging to a man I don't even speak to. Just wondering if I should call them and try to get my dads 150 dollars back or just let it go.

Answer
Most states allow for a lien on property in a vehicle as well as the vehicle also. It is common for law enforcement to call a rotation wrecker, especially if the person driving is transported. If you were able to talk they should have asked if you had a request for the towing company. As for the property, if you were in the hospital they probably assumed that your dad was coming by for you, which is not unusual. Did you have insurance?
