Towing Issues: towed because of out of date registration, working in vegas, tow yard

hi. i live in la verne, ca.  while working in vegas i got pulled over on the 15 heading home for the weekend.  the officer informed me that my tag was expired and gave me a ticket to fix it or appear in barstow court on dec. 3.  this was august 20, 2009.  now it is october 1, 2009 and i still don't have the tag fixed.  well, I am in Pomona and parked near the police dept and got something to eat. when i come out my truck is towed.  i went into the police dept and they told me to go to the pomona police tow yard and they will help me.  when i get there the lady asked me for my tag number which thank god i knew.  she apperantly ran the info and told me that my registration was cancelled since march and anything after 6 months they are legal to tow.  it was 6 months and 1 day. or was it??  I cant figure out why or how the dmv cancelled my registration in march.  i have spend numerous time at the court house or at the dmv getting my license back.   no time did they tell me about this.  anyhow.  i was told to go to the dmv  and get a one day moving pass. but when i get to the dmv they are already closed.( this is on a Thursday). they are closed on friday and i can't get the moving pass until monday.  Well on thursday the fees were:  100 to the police 208 to the impound yard.  now it is gonna be 400  to the yard and 100 which is 500 to get it out on Monday.  is there any way around this.??? please help me.  also do the tow companies have consent to go into my vehicle ??  My tires were turned all the way to the right because i have a F-350 truck and i had to parrallel park which is sortive hard with a  big truck.  I left my keys on my seat locked the doors.  i get to the yard and go in my truck to get my phone (on thursday) and my keys are gone they said they have them and i didn't wait for them to give me an answer because i was soo pissed.  thank you

Unfortunately many states have laws where your vehicle can be towed because of a lapse in registration. There is really not anything you can do about the impound fees. As for them gaining access to the vehicle, yes they are authorized. If they did not it would cost you even more because of the difficulty in loading or towing the vehicle.In many states towing companies are required to do an inventory of a vehicle when they tow it.
