Towing Issues: Towing Fee, tow companies, s yard

Question
My car struck a concrete barrier. I called the towing company and was told that I would be charged $275. No labor costs were mentioned. I told the company to tow my car to the local dealer, but my car was towed to the towing company's yard. A few days later, I received a bill for $4000 labor fees. My question is: do I have to pay the labor cost? Thank you very much!

Answer
WOW, is this in the Chicago or Corpus Christi area by chance ???

There are all kinds of scams which some "BAD APPLE TOW COMPANIES" do and a lot of them are what we would call illegal operations instead of professional tow companies...

It sounds like you got caught by one of those kind of companies.

And I would really question what "LABOR CHARGES" are and for.  Ask for a detailed break down of the charges.

You as a customer have a right to a "DETAILED BREAK DOWN OF ALL CHARGES" on an itemized tow bill which is readable.

But as to "having to pay the labor costs" in simple terms, do you not have insurance coverage for "the accident" and if not then you have to consider is it really worth the money involved to get the vehicle out.

Add in to the equation, the fact that in many areas you are prohibited from abandoning the vehicle at the tow company without paying the fees, surrendering the title, or a combination of both.

State laws come into play here in this issue and since I have no idea of where it happened, I can not really point you to specific answers or attempt to answer the question with specific information.

Hope this helps.
