Towing Issues: towing issue, tow company, san diego ca

My car got towed because it had no plates in a public lot.  i was planning on donating the car but it got towed.  now i owe $1000+ in fines to get it out of impound.  i don't even want the car, the tow company can have it.  But, they are claiming i am still responsible for these charges and it will go into collections.  is this true?  is there anything i can do besides pay these outstanding fees?  san diego, CA

Your best option is making arrangements with the tow company on auctioning, disposing, or reclaiming the vehicle. One suggestion if you have no interest in the vehicle is paying some of bill and have the vehicle auctioned. Maybe you and the tow company can make some type of arrangements but be prepared to pay something. Most likely the vehicle will be auctioned and the remaining tow balance will be sent to collections which they can legally do. You are responsible for the remaining balance. Hope something can be worked out.


Make sure you get a detailed receipt on any and all arrangements!
