Towing Issues: dinghy towing Ford Ranger 84, dinghy towing, tow dolly

Question
Can we dinghy tow this truck... it has a manual
transmission.

Answer
I don't recommend or would NOT do it but it is possible. If towing a 2wd with all four wheels on the ground and transmission in neutral it is VERY limited on speed and distance. Under 35mph and under 50 miles max. If it's four wheel drive you could put the transfer case in neutral, front hubs unlocked. As I said before I WOULD NOT do it. With the age and possible wear/mileage on the transmission the risk is too great for even a short distance. My suggestion for a 2wd is a tow dolly and load it backwards, rear tires in the dolly. If it's 4wd get a car trailer or drop the driveshafts.
