Towing Issues: Towing small Pop up camper with 02 Honda CRV, pop up camper, liability reasons

Question
I have a small Coleman pop up that I recently purchased and would like to pull it for short distances (no more than 1 hr. one way, more often 30-45 min trips) with my 02 Honda CRV. I have all the specs and I am right on the edge but everyone tells me Honda rates low for liability reasons.  So here are the facts the camper is 1430# curb and I load light, no potable water and only 1 LP tank and light camping supplies, so 20# for the LP tank and 50# for misc. puts me at 1500# which is the towing cap on CRV as well car will have myself, wife, child, dog and clothes, and cooler of food (about 750-800#) payload is 850#. The CRV has a curb wt of 3347# I believe and GVWR of 4320# not sure if these are exactly correct. I don't have the manual in front of me right now, but in any case when you add the hitch wt to my cargo which is 160# I will be sitting at about 900-950# over recommended load but under GVWR.  I am installing a tranny cooler and will be in completely flat areas. This CRV also has aftermarket jump seats in the trunk and has been over that 850# limit several times in its life and always seems fine.  It has actually been a wonderfully amazing SUV, and far exceeded all of my expectations.  Any insight or comments on wether this should be done or what kind of problems it could cause would be greatly appreciated

Answer
Collin,

You are extremely thorough. More than I could be. The problem areas would be your trans and suspension. The best thing to do would be load the trailer and test it locally. Maybe even take it to a professional for their opinion. That may require a suspension shop and a trans shop.
