Towing Issues: truck had a boot put on it, tooele city utah, tow driver

Question
I live in tooele city utah and I went to see a friend who I met like a year ago and I had never been over to their house before. They live in a trailer park in Tooele city and so I went to see them. I pulled up to their mobile home and saw there was a vacant lot next door to them with a driveway so I parked in it so I was out of the road. well I had went in their house and about ten minutes later my friend said hey they are putting a boot on your truck. So I ran out and asked the driver what he was doing and he said he was towing my truck cause I was parked illegally. I told him that I never seen any signs saying no parking. He said they were their I asked him were he said he didn't know. I said well take the boot off and I will move my truck he said pay 80 dollars and I will remove the boot. My friends called the manager of the park and he said he couldn't do anything that there were signs saying no parking. So I had asked him also to show me the signs but he said he didn't have to. So I had my friends drive me around the park to look for these signs and videoed the whole park there was no signs at all. But I still had to pay the 80 dollars to get my truck. I've heard that mobile home parks are private but they should still post signs at the entrances so that visitors know where they can or can't park. The tow driver told me he didn't know how lomg I had been there but isnt that why they put stickers or grease pen marks on them. Is this legal for them to do

Answer
Darren,

Without researching utah laws in-depth, but assuming that it is not dissimilar to most states. Private properties may have vehicles removed without posting signs. This means that the property owner or management has an agreement with the tower, or simply authorized the tower to remove the car.

I know it sucks to hear, but you should never park on private property, like a vacant lot or parking lots in general, without having knowledge or permission that it is ok.

I do believe the tower acted legally.
