Towing Issues: Illegal Tow: my car was towed from my driveway, chicago suburb, tow yard

Question
I live in a Chicago suburb. My car was towed when I was away at work from my driveway. Apparently, a neighbor had reported the alarm going off. A police officer came by and requested the vehicle to be towed.

Is this legal? Shouldn't I be given a ticket or some other notice first?

Answer
it sounds like a "noise ordinance" tow, and you should of got a ticket with it also...

Basically the alarm was disturbing the peace and as such the police most likely tired to find you or someone who could shut off the alarm.  Since you were gone, there was no one who could do it...  The police in most cases will have it towed to the tow  yard where it can bug them not the neighbors who already were mad enough to call and report it.

Sorry it had to happen, but that is how it usually works. Its expensive but it happens that way.

( you might talk to a few neighbors and give them contact information for you, so that if it happens again or something happens to your house then you can be contacted)
