Towing Issues: Towing company charging over the lein amount!!, legal paperwork, tow yard

Question
Well I see that you response was poor because by law the towing company has to take the amount of the lien!! all a person has to do is to go to the area police dept and show that they are willing to pay the amount of the lien and the towing company has to release the lien that's what i did and it worked!!

Welcome to the world of driving responsibility.

I hate to have a bit of an attitude, but its amazing that lots of people think they can just leave a vehicle and not be responsible for it ever again. Towing companies are in business as a private business, not as a public service supported by tax dollars like the police and fire departments.

Now many states have enacted laws in which you abandon a vehicle at a tow yard (towed for what ever reason) your license to drive or the license plate privileges will be suspended. Its not just a way for tow companies to get rich. It allows them to recover costs incurred for towing, storage, notifying the owners, filing the legal paperwork to dispose of the vehicle.

Now as to the difference in fees between what they said lien was and what it is now, its hard to say with any exact answers, but the lien might also have extra fees due for filing the lien with the state, or state imposed fees.

As to legally registering the vehicle now, you will have to comply and pay the fees.

Remember that driving and holding a drivers license is a privilege not a right.
The laws where placed in effect to help protect the public and also the towing company. The problem is so great in some areas that towing companies are forced to hold vehicles up to 1 year in order to get paperwork to dispose of them.

Answer
sorry you feel the answer was poor, but I am not a lawyer, and I am in Alabama.  I was not sure if you where in Texas or Florida so hard to give SPECIFIC INFORMATION...

Each state is different and the laws are constantly changing. Florida is revamping the laws currently with some that took effect Jan 1 and some in July.  Texas is regulated by a State Commission.

I am glad that you found out the answer and what was needed. I try to keep up on the information and it is a hard project to do.
