Towing Issues: Towed and very unsatisfied, better business bureau, visitors spot

Question
Hello,

Less than a week ago i was towed from an apartment complex at 4am where i was reportedly "not in a visitors spot". However, i was initially told that the reason i was towed was because "On a gameday weekend near the University of Florida no car is allowed to park anywhere on the lot whether visitor or tenant without a special pass from the apartment office". Not only was their reason changed when i got there (a good 2 mile walk afterwards), the man was extremely rude, and reported that 'it was not his problem' 'he had been mistaken.'

Now i understand this is a Floridian towing company, but being absolutely furious at the lack of professionalism in the company, is there anything i can do to complain to any bureaus? or is there a way i can fight the charge due to the neglect of the company?

Answer
Well  I am sorry that you had to experience the problems of being towed from a parking lot.  It always happens in areas where there are high values placed on parking spots near popular destinations.

Now it sounds a bit funny that even permitted vehicles need a secondary permit to be there on game days.

But each property management / owner can determine what they want to do with their property.

Sometimes the towing company does make a mistake, but in most cases its cut and dry about the tow.  No permits means you get towed.
As to the company being rude, I am guessing that you were not the only person towed. As a tower myself, I get lots of complaints about towing and the legallity of the issue when people come pick up vehicles. I know that most people would not treat the clerks at stores like we are treated after towing vehicles we were instructed to tow by property owners- managers or even police departments.

If you feel that you have been treated wrong, check with your local police department for a towing officer who regulates tows. Some departments have them, some do not.
You can complain to the Better Business Bureau, but they just attempt to get things resolved but actually they have no real teeth for doing so. Lots of complaints just are filed and make up a rating and thats it with them.

Complaining to the property management might not do good but its also something that can be done.

Small Claims Court is always an option which you have.
Professionalism of the company usually will not have much of a standing if they followed the law, did not damage the vehicle, did not charge "excessive rates" ( I know any fee you paid out will seem excessive) ...

Thats about all I can do for answers, hope it helps you with this issue.
