Towing Issues: Towing Sea Doos With a 5th Wheel or Travel Trailer, fifth wheel trailer, sea doos

Question
I am buying a 5th wheel or a Travel Trailer, what are the laws in California to tow another trailer behind it. I have heard its a length thing and others have told me you need a licence.

Answer
Within the state of California you must have a commercial license to tow more than one trailer.

From the CHP website.
" Towing more than one vehicle with a passenger vehicle or pickup weighing less than 4,000 pounds is illegal. The driver is also required to obtain a Class A (Commercial) license when towing more than one vehicle. (VC Sec. 21715) Vehicles that are towing are required by law not to travel more than 55 MPH regardless of speed limit! (VC Sec. 22406)"

Also there is a total length restriction of 65'.

I haven't found the law for California, but in most other states where 'trains' are allowed, only a fifth wheel trailer may tow another trailer.

Best of luck,
