Towing Issues: tow capacity, tow weight, tongue weight

Question
Hi,

I can't find the owner's manual for a 2001 Toyota Tundra.  I am planning on towing a boat, about 1500 lbs max.

The Tundra does not a towing hitch set up, just the tow bumper.  Since I don't have the manual for reference, do you think this is a safe weight for a tow bumper, do I need to consider tongue weight and tow weight and do manuals usually state the maximum for each.

Thanks and Happy New Year.

Answer
as always, its best to use a real trailer hitch assembly which is attached to the frame of the vehicle.  Bumper mounted hitchs will not support real heavy duty towing requirements.

Now according to some research you have 7000 pound towing capability with the toyota tundra.

Hope this helps a bit, but trailer towing is an area where I am not real good..
