Toyota Repair: 2004 Sequoia limited brake problem, cylinder problem, sequioa

Question
I have a 2004 sequioa limited w/ 115,000 mile. My brake light, vsc off and vsc trac lights have been coming on intermitantly now for the past 3 days. When I press the brakes i feel and hear this horrible vibrating grinding sound and the pedal goes all the way down. The car only slows a little so I have to keep pumping the brakes to get it to stop. After a few times that condition stops and the brakes seem to work fine. I took it to the shop but all the lights stayed off and didn't come on for them. They did a diagnostic but they said the computer didn't have any record of any lights coming on. Its really scary especially when driving on the highway and the brakes act up. Can you recommend what I can do? I heard from other posts to maybe flush and change the brake fluid or could be a master cylinder problem. Even though this problem is not constant, it does happen daily.

I've only had this problem once last year and went away after pads/ rotors were flushed and changed. The same lights came on a few times after that but with no symptons and eventually stopped.

Answer
Hello, it's not a master cylinder problem and flushing it is probably not going to help either, there have been some problems with the ABS actuators/computers on these models which can be intermittent. When those lights come on the computer is detecting a problem. Toyota has issued a service bulletin addressing this condition but it depends on what the trouble codes are that are stored, I don't believe that there are no codes in it like that shop told you, they may not have the proper equipment to get the code information or diagnose the system. This is a safety issue and I would highly recommend contacting the toyota dealer for this.
