Toyota Repair: Oil Sensor?, valve cover gasket, oil pressure sending unit

Question
QUESTION: Hi Ted,

I have a 1995 Camry 4 cyl 171K miles. I replaced the valve cover gasket. On the side of my motor facing the passenger compartment there is a sensor with oil on it and two wires coming out of it. There is oil on the bottom of bolts on the air intake, oil on the side of the motor, and oil on the top of the rear motor mount. The switch/sensor attached to the motor is just to the driver’s side of the rear engine mount.

Is this sensor or switch the Oil Pressure Sending Unit?

Is it possible the source of this leaking oil on the side of the motor, the motor mount, and bottom of the air intake is from oil leaking out through the two electrodes in the switch and around the electrical connector on the wiring harness?

I had a radiator fan switch that leaked coolant out through the two electrodes and wondered if this oil switch is doing the same thing?

Thanks Ted!

Sincerely,

Mike

ANSWER: It's not the oil pressure sending unit.it's located on the cylinder head facing the radiator and has only one wire connected to it, is it possible for you to attach a picture of this sensor in a reply?

QUESTION: Hi Ted,

With the weather warming up and not raining, I was able to put the car up on ramps to crawl under and snap a photo of the sensor that I believe is leaking oil. The picture is a jpeg in which I circled the sensor with blue ink and also the wire coming off of it which seems to be encased in a light protective covering of some type.

I can't tell if this sensor has one wire or two coming off of it because of the hose like covering over the wire.

What is this sensor called?
Could it be leaking out of its terminal like the radiator fan switch can also leak?

Thanks Ted!

Sincerely,

Mike

Answer
That picture looks like it's the knock sensor, there is no oil connection there, it does not go into oil or coolant passages. The oil pressure sender is located on the cylinder head near the top on the right(standing in front) just above the exhaust manifold hear shield.
