Toyota Repair: lamp failure module, light indicator, wire harness

Question
I'm driving a 1993 Camry XLE with over 220 miles. The back lights were not working. My mechanic quoted $250 for  part number 89373-06010.
I purchased the part from ebay for $22. Yesterday, the mechanic installed the ebay part I purchased. It worked, I had lights. I stopped 2 blocks later at a store. 30 minutes later, I started the car...there was a burnt smell and the dash back light indicator was on again. I checked and the back lights are NOT working again.

What do you suggest I try next.

Answer
A common problem is that there is a short circuit in the wire harness that's attached to the left trunk hinge, it goes inside and connects to another wire harness , this short may have caused the relay to have burned out again. Instruct your mechanic to strip the insulation from the wire harness to where it goes throught the trunk, I'm sure they will find some wires shorted or broken, they can very easily be resoldered together, and insulated.
